Happy Father's Day

Happy Father's Day to the best father I could ask for my son.

6 month update

This post is a little late and I apologize for that, but I just have so much fun playing with Lucas. Lucas had his 6 month update the beginning of March and he just continues to be a growing boy. He was 25.6 lbs and almost 29 inches long. That would be in the 97% aka big boy. He is rolling all over the place, but not quite crawling yet. Loves to be in his walker or bouncer. I think that when ever he does crawl it will not be for long and will be walking very soon after.

We took Lucas to the playground for the 1st time the other day and he just loved the swing. Huge smiles and laughing the whole time. And he got to watch all the other kids as well.

4 Month Update

I have been meaning to write this post for a couple of days, but just want to spend time with the little guy. My baby turned 4 months hold last week. I can't believe how fast it has already gone by. I can't find the sheet that has all the specifics on it (probably under all the other crap on my desk at work) but Lucas is growing like a weed. He is 20.5 pounds, 27 inches and in at least the 95% for his weight, height and head. He is talking up a storm which is so much fun, drooling all over the place (I think we are starting to get a tooth, slowly) and wiggling all over the place. He rolled over for the first time from his tummy to back on Dec 16th and then from his back to his tummy last night. He is just so much fun and I love ever minute I get to spend with him. Even if he is screaming his head off.

My Chunky Monkey

I can't believe it but the little guy is 9 weeks old today. Where has the time gone? And I know it will only get worse as he gets older. So he had his 2 month check up yesterday and daddy took him. Probably a good thing because he had to get 4 shots & I probably would have cried right along with him. Everything looks good, he is now 15.1 lbs & 23 inches long. That puts him in the 96% for weight & 40% for height. So as I said, he is my chunky monkey. My theory, he is putting on weight for the cold months ahead. All is well & we will go back for his 4 month check up.

Bath Time

Daddy's arms are the best place to be after bath time.

Lucas' Blanket

I managed to get Lucas' blanket done just a few days after he come. Can't wait for him to start using it.

Lucas update

Today Lucas had an appointment with a pediatric cardiologist to follow up after his ECHO that was done almost 2 weeks ago. And we are happy to have some good news. It looks like he has a ventricular septal defect. In none medical terms, he has a small opening in the wall that separates the 2 sides of the lower heart. When the heart pumps the blood back out into the body, a small amount is flowing back into the other ventricular which flows back into the lungs. The doctor listened to his heart and did not hear much of a murmur, so he decided to do another ECHO so he could see the heart as well. As I said, he does have a small hole/opening but it looks like it actually closing up when he breathes, so not much blood is flowing back. Very good news. The doctor says that it will either stay the same size, or get smaller as he gets older and will not require any type of surgery. So at this time, they are going to see him again in 6 weeks for a followup. And then hopefully won't have to see him much at all. So like I said, very good news.

Lucas update

So it seems that Lucas really is going to be stubborn. When he was born, the doctor noticed a slight heart murmur but did not seem too worried about it. He checked it again at his 2 week appointment and he still had it, but it was not as bad. The doctor wanted Lucas to get an ECHO done to see what is going on. If there is something there, he wanted to catch it early. So we went yesterday to Cardinal Glennon yesterday. Lucas did very well and only got a little fussy a couple of times. The pediatrician has already received the results and it seems that Lucas has a slight heart defect. He wants Lucas to see a heart specialist to look at it closer but he still does not seem very worried about it. So we will go back to Cardinal Glennon sometime next week to see the specialist and will update when we know more.

The Arrival

Some of you have heard the story of Lucas' arrival and some have not. So here are the details. We went to the doctor on Monday, Aug 30th for our 37 week appointment. Not much had changed as I was still 1cm. My doctor talked about the possibility of inducing me on the 15th if he did not come sooner. Then on Tuesday, my water had started to break (even thought I did not know at the time) I figured that it was a result of the exam the day before since I was not have any major contractions and they were not very close together at all. Maybe 1 an hour. So I went to work Wednesday and just did not feel right. My back was hurting, I was still leaking and had some minor contractions. I took some Tylenol hoping that would help my back and went to lunch. When I got back about 12:30, my water had broken and there was some major leaking. I got my things together and heading home to call the doctor because I was still not sure if my water had broken. They told me to go to the hospital and get checked out. I tried to call Stan at work and could not get a hold of him, so I had to call the office for them to get him out of class. I finally got to talk to Stan and told him that I was going to the hospital and to meet me there.

I got there about 2pm and he got there around 3pm. They checked me out and confirmed that my water had broken and they were going to move me to labor & delivery. We were defiantly not ready for this since it was 18 days from my due date. Good thing I had my back packed already and grabbed in on my way. They started me on pitocin sometime around 5 and that began the waiting game. I did not begin the hard labor until after midnight and was starting to get uncomfortable. they continued to increase the pitocin I had progressed to about 3cm by early morning. Not sure what time it was because the pain was getting intense. I finally decided to get the epidural around 5am which seemed to take forever. She was having problems getting in my back and probably took over 30 minutes, but I was starting to feel good after that. I believe I was about 4cm at this point, I am not completely sure. It got to be about noon and they checked me again. I had only managed to get to about 5cm, so they called the doctor.

At this point, my water had been broken for almost 2 days and even with the intense/good contractions not much was happening. I talked to my doctor and she said the dreaded words, c-section and of course I did not want that. She agreed to wait another hour and see where I was at and then we would go from there. They was a lot praying and Stan talking to Lucas trying to get him moving. The hour came and went and they checked me again and I was only at about 5 1/2-6 cm and I was starting to get a fever. They decided for the safety of me & Lucas to go ahead with the c-section. I of course cried & Stan cried (even though it was not in front of me).

But Lucas was born Sept 2nd at 2:59pm weighting a healthy 8lbs 8ozs. That would be 17 days early. I guess he was just so excited to join us and our crazy family.
